Struff too strong for Humbert in Madrid

Struff too strong for Humbert in Madrid

The Spanish adventure has already come to an end for the French number 1. Up against a very confident Jan-Lennard Struff (winner of his first title in Munich last week), Humbert was unable to find the key (7-5, 6-4).

Having played a very solid match, the world number 24 was never troubled. Highly offensive from the baseline (34 winners, 18 unforced errors) and untouchable on serve (0 break points conceded, 76% of points won on first serve and 72% on second serve), the German is now logically through to the Round of 16.

Last year's finalist, Struff could well face a mountain in the Round of 16. He is likely to meet up again with his tormentor from the 2023 final, Carlos Alcaraz. Unless the world no. 3 stumbles in his third-round match against Thiago Seyboth Wild (world no. 63).
